Today we check out what Angie Curran has to say:-

Angie Curran (Environmental and Safety consultant to the construction and pharmaceutical industry) She works for herself. Angie has 20 years experience, has two young children and has a self employed husband. Angie is often the only female on construction sites and she wants to dispel the myth that there is prejudice against women in construction. Angie says we want more women to get involved.

How do you define career success?

I define it as flexibility. Being able to choose work that motivates me but also having the authority to flex my time so I can be there for my family at important moments. I’m not tied to a 9-5 job.

Do you think female execs get the support then need from their work environment to be ambitious?

I believe too much is put on the availability for international travel. So much can be achieved remotely now. Women shy away from senior positions if they have to travel to achieve success.

How does one create a supportive environment at work and home? How do you balance work and home? How do you balance work and personal life?

I jump in and do my best. I expect my husband to support me. I do not expect that all the childcare falls onto me. If I take a hit e.g, stay at home with a sick child, I automatically assume it is his turn next time.

What do you think is the biggest issue facing women at your age today?

Childcare

What advice did you receive early in your career that has stayed with you throughout your journey?

Jump in. Keen some skin in the game at all times no matter how small a part you play.

What is your superpower?

My superpower is I work fast.

Why do you think diversity is so important in the workplace?

Diversity is real life. Everything else is a false environment that cannot be perpetuated forever.

Any female role model l who has inspired you over your career and why?

Oh yes, Ms Marie Martin, ED of Operations and MSD Carlow. She is all of herself every single day. An engineer, a mother, a wife, a community member, a daughter. She is never afraid to bring her whole self to work and that inspired me to be myself. All of myself and when I do that, I succeed.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s interview of the day!
