How do you define career success?

The answer to this is very personally defined. I’m happy to get up every day and want to go to work, to know I am helping people, whether it is my clients, colleagues or candidates. I am 13 years with my current employer and have developed myself within the Group over the years, taking on new opportunities, challenges, and extra responsibilities. I’m proud to say I have gained respect and trust from my employer and colleagues while having a great work life balance.

Do you think female execs get the support they need from their work environment to be ambitious?

Being in the recruitment industry for so long yes is the answer. I have seen more and more females develop their careers and become successful. This all comes down to the individual themselves, do they want to be ambitious and to success. If so, the support is there.

How do you balance work and personal life?

Both have its challenges, however I feel it’s about being organised and being able to plan your workload and communicate with your employer if there are work challenges affecting your personal life. Being able to ask for support is key.

What do you think is the biggest issue facing women at your age today?

Considering starting a family and the cost of childcare associated to this while needing to work full time.

What advice did you receive early in your career that has stayed with you throughout your journey?

Be honest and upfront, speak your mind, don’t be afraid to challenge people, ask questions but most importantly continue developing relationships.

What is your superpower? or what is your spirit animal and why?

Communication is my superpower. The Bear would be my animal of choice. The primary meaning of the bear spirit animal is strength and confidence, taking action and leadership, these are some of my qualities.

Why do you think diversity is so important in the workplace?

Diversity will strengthen a workplace, generate new ideas, will encourage creativity and improvements. People’s differences will complement each other across different levels of experience throughout the workplace. Workers who speak different languages helps companies work on a global basis and interact with a broader customer base. Diverse workplaces will improve morale and will promote positivity in the workplace.

Any female role model who has inspired you over your career and why?

Yes, this person is currently MD of Freight and Logistics Company in Ireland. She started her career in this company 18 years ago and worked within many departments each time developing her skills and proving her ability to help the company succeed. Kuehne + Nagel Ireland’s Pamela Quinn, was recently recognised as Ireland’s Most Trusted Leader in 2019. She is an inspiration to women in Ireland.
